Why are you passionate about the work you do?
I’m passionate about helping advisors build businesses because I’ve seen firsthand the impact that the right support, strategy and environment can have on both advisors and the clients they serve. Throughout my career in the RIA space, I’ve been drawn to the intersection of growth, leadership and execution—where vision turns into tangible outcomes. What motivates me most is partnering with advisors to help unlock scale, elevate their client experience, and create durable enterprise value, while also helping firms continue to evolve their value proposition in ways that truly differentiate. At Mariner it’s about building something meaningful, a place where advisors can thrive, teams are aligned and growth is intentional and sustainable.
Experience and education
Topaz brings more than a decade of leadership experience across the independent wealth management space, with a focus on driving advisor growth, operational excellence and scalable platform development. He currently serves as director of advisor growth and engagement at Mariner Independent, where he leads initiatives to help independent advisors better understand, grow and scale their businesses while fully leveraging the firm’s platform.
Prior to joining Mariner, Topaz served as chief operating officer at Visionary Square, where he led firm-wide operations for an RIA, overseeing trading and operations, technology and advisor support functions. In this role, he was responsible for building and scaling infrastructure to support advisor growth, driving operational efficiency and aligning cross-functional teams to deliver consistent, high-quality advisor and client experiences. He also partnered closely with executive leadership on strategic planning and enterprise-wide initiatives to position the firm for long-term growth. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at LPL Financial, Northwestern Mutual, Allianz Life and Ameriprise Financial, building a strong foundation across advisor platforms and distribution. Topaz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business/managerial economics from Augsburg University and an MBA from Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
